New Hailey Baby

Today, the Hailey's brought home a new baby boy.  John Morris Hailey was born on June 24, 2013 at exactly 10:00 am eastern.  He was 7lbs, 8oz and 21 inches long.  Like his brother David, John was born by C-section.  Though it was a scheduled procedure, it was still full of surprises.

The morning started at 5:16 am as me and David prepared to go to the hospital. We had to arrive by 6am for our 8am procedure. I had surprisingly had a good night sleep, in between the 5 trips to the bathroom.  We arrived on time but we got lost in the hospital.  There was construction that made us go to the wrong elevator.  At 9 months pregnant, there is really no rushing through the hallways for me - so we were a bit late.  We finally arrived 20 minutes late but with all our paperwork complete, so it was all good.  Apparently, pre-completing all the registration docs, as directed by the hospital's website, is something rare.  The staff at the front desk was so excited about the completed package that they forgot all about our tardiness. I may be late to the party but I stay prepared.

In pre-op, the nurses started to prepare me for surgery.  Two or three nurses gave me all kinds of questions, test, shots, medications and IVs.  It was kind of overwhelming.  At one point they all ran off in different directions to get this or grab that and I started to feel nauseated and hot.  I turned to David and said very quietly, "Baby, I think I'm about to loose it." His eyes got really big and he asked, "well, what is wrong."  He then went into supper hubby mode.  Got the nurses back in and they gave me something to calm down and a cold towel.  He later joked about how calmly I let him know that I was "losing it".  Though he had no idea what "it" was or how to keep "it" from being lost.

In the end, the C-section was preformed with little issue, just an abnormal amount of scaring (from the first C-section), which caused a longer procedure, and the call for the second doctor (because the doctor's assistant was not enough to handle all the scaring).  Oh and the weird smell of burning flesh that we never noticed the first time and we both tried to ignore this time since it was, obviously, my burning flesh.  Not to mention the second doctor announcing that "it's a girl" when, as the name John suggest, it was a boy.  The incorrect announcement caused our eyes to bulge with the thought that (1) all the ultrasounds were wrong and we have a girl, (2) there was also a boy still in there or (3) the doctor was wrong.  For what it's worth, the doctor was just wrong.  Though I kind of wish there was a twin surprise.  That, however, would have guaranteed that David would still be in the hospital from a concussion (or worst).

Well, we do have a boy and David did not have to be hospitalized. God is good and have blessed us beyond measure.  What I really love about my God (besides everything), is his sense of humor.  Not sure he has ever showed it to you but sometimes he just tickles me.  When he makes me laugh in the mist of trouble, that lets me further know how much he loves me.  To give us what we need is more than enough but to care enough to make us smile,  well that is a marvelous God.

Like I said, it is a boy.  Mr. John Morris Hailey. I can't stop saying the whole name.  He is named after my grandfather, who I loved and admired so much.  I wanted both of my boys to be named after men that they would have to strive to be as great as.  Real men - men I know.  Not men on a poster or men with obvious fame or men with undeserved fortune. I wanted them named after men that have worried about what seemed impossible, planned for the inevitable, pushed through sleepless nights, prayed for God to fill the gap and, in the end, made it happen.  Yes, the Hailey boys have big shoes to fill - Very big shoes.

By the end of his first day, John was visited by his grandparents and his big brother.  He was surrounded by love and family from his first moments on earth.  Everyone thought that he looked just like his big brother when he was a baby but I don't think so.  Maybe it is because I am the momma, but I see my boys individually and uniquely as beautiful.

Big brother Tripp seemed to deal with all the excitement very well.  He was smiling from ear to ear.  And he even got a little gift of his own.  Tripp and I made a deal that if he was a good boy during my pregnancy, then he could have anything he wanted.  He decided on a rocket ship and that's what he got, along with a few astronauts.

We ended the day in the hospital and stayed until Friday.  We are now home, with the grandmas running around us like crazy.  Both smiling from ear to ear.

Well, good 5th night John Morris.  Get ready!
